Alexis Bledel Interview – Gilmore Girls – “I needed to stretch myself and see what I was capable of”
Alexis Bledel is quite different from her Gilmore Girl’s alter ego Rory. While the over-achieving verbose go-getter from Stars Hollow had no problem voicing her opinion on all matters, Bledel seems reluctant and shy.
Q: Since the first round of Gilmore Girls, you worked on Sin City, Mad Men, Violet and Daisy, very different roles from Rory, was that all on purpose?
BLEDEL: It was [laughs]. She was my first job, and I was so lucky that it went on for years but then, I wasn’t sure I could play anyone else because I didn’t have the experience. So when I got the opportunity to go to the other side of the spectrum, and play characters that were far removed from Rory, I took it. I needed to stretch myself and see what I was capable of, explore a more intense, sometimes strange darker side which was a lot of fun…
