Evan Rachel Wood Interview – Westworld – “getting to play that role changed me”
Every actor dreams of that one project that takes them to the top. Few ever get there, though. But Evan Rachel Wood may finally have found the project of a lifetime in the new HBO sci-drama, WESTWORLD. The series is based on the eponymous 1973 Michael Crichton cult film about a futuristic theme park populated by lifelike androids designed to allow humans to indulge their basest instincts. Things went awry, however, when the machines, led by Yul Brynner as a black-hatted western gunslinger, overrode their programming and began murdering the park’s real-life visitors.
Q: Evan, this series is literally out of this world, isn’t it?
WOOD: (Laughs) Dolores is my most favourite character I’ve ever played, because there are so many layers to her. By the end of shooting, I just started weeping. I hugged Lisa Joy and said, ‘Thank you.’ Because getting to play that role changed me, and gave me a newfound strength that I didn’t know I had.
