Matthew McConaughey Interview – “A parent has to walk a fine line between being a parent and a friend.”
Matthew McConaughey has always embraced life to the fullest. His self-styled, free-spirited attitude has endeared him to audiences over the years who have seen him evolve from a romantic comedy star into an Oscar-winning dramatic actor in 2013’s Dallas Buyers’ Club and the acclaimed True Detective TV series.
Q: After making a film like this, does it help you put into perspective your own parental philosophy or sense of responsibility?
MM: A parent has to walk a fine line between being a parent and a friend. Those two roles intersect and overlap. I’ve seen many examples where adults are trying to be friends to their children in circumstances where they’re doing a disservice to their children. But I understand how hard it can be to know which role you need to play at the right time.
