Melissa McCarthy Interview – Ghostbusters – “I always said if I don’t get anything substantial by the time I’m thirty, I’m done”
Seeing as Melissa McCarthy believes in spirits and the supernatural, signing up to star in the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot was a no brainer. “They do exist, for sure,” she tells me, “whether as ghosts, whether as energy, I don’t know. But I definitely believe in something beyond a physical bodies. You don’t just die and that’s it.”
In London to promote the $150million reboot, the 45 year-old Hollywood star still finds her A-list credentials difficult to wrap her head around after catapulting to fame in Bridesmaids only five years ago.
Q: Were you thinking of quitting?
MCCARTHY: Acting wasn’t working out. I was getting rejection after rejection, I wasn’t even getting auditions. Couldn’t get a job to save my life [laughs]. I always said if I don’t get anything substantial by the time I’m thirty, I’m done, that’s it, I’m going to focus on producing. And a week before I turned 30, I got Gilmore.
