BERLIN – Richard Gere enjoys his role as a global goodwill ambassador for Tibet. A devoted follower of Buddhism and the teaching of the Dalai Lama, he made it a point to pay a visit to German Chancellor Angela Merkel during his recent trip to the Berlin Film Festival.
Q: You’ve gravitated towards working on independent films like The Dinner and most of your recent projects over the last decade. How did that come about?
GERE: I think the best movies are being made by independent producers and directors working with smaller budgets. If I happen to find a great project being made by one of the major Hollywood studios, I would do it, but the business has changed…
