Sofia Coppola: “It’s 25 years and I’m still asked about The Godfather.” – ‘The Beguiled’

Sofia Coppola answers questions with minimal words and expression. It’s rather all part of her dreamy, hypnotic demeanour in conversation. But there’s a brusque frankness hidden underneath. For nearly twenty years, she has cultivated a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most imminent filmmakers thanks to masterful creations like The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation and Somewhere.

But her lineage, as the daughter of director Francis and her former fleeting career as an actress, critically nuked after her wooden performance in The Godfather III, is a combined topic that haunts her. And something she tends to shy away from.  “It’s 25 years later and I’m still asked about [The Godfather III]. Which surprises but I understand it. It’s an interesting talking point for some people but it doesn’t interest me to talk about it.”
